International Lake Environment Committee (ILEC) Regional Workshop has started in our Faculty. The workshop began with the speech of Prof. Meriç ALBAY, Dean of Faculty, where he summarised the recent studies undertaken in the Department of Freshwater Biology. ALBAY pointed out to the latest works of the research teams conducted, with an ecosystem approach, on various freshwater resources in our country and the results they shared with the private and public sectors. He also noted that in the Faculty there are three ongoing EU Projects and also several projects which are funded by national agencies and programs. He emphasized that the Faculty is always open to new national and international projects, as well as collaboration proposals. He indicated that organizing a “Transboundary Waters” workshop in cooperation with the well-informed ILEC members has made a great deal of contribution not only for the researchers and scientists, but also for our country.
Prof. Masahisa Nakamura, President of the ILEC Scientific Committee and Academic Member of the Shiga University, remarked in his speech that he would be very glad to make use of Turkey’s experience on the management of Transboundaries Lake and Rivers and share his own experiences about the projects they conducted elsewhere.

Scientist from Japan, Italy, USA, Greece and also experts from the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI), the Turkish Water Institute Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs, Nevşehir and Okan Universities have participated in the workshop with a lot of oral presentations. The workshop will end on the 16th of June, 2014.
