Acceptance and Graduation Requirements

TThe Faculty of Aquatic Sciences admits students according to state university exam attend «Obligatory English Preparation Programme» before starting undergraduate program. English Preparation Programme is not included to the 4 year education period. Students, who succeeds the English Proficiency Exam, begin directly to the undergraduate program. In undergraduate program 30% of the courses are in English. 

Graduation requirements for 4 year bachelor’s degree are as follows: (1) To accumulate at least 30 ECTS in each semester and 240 ECTS or 150 credits in total (2) be successful in all courses, (3) Grade-Point Average (GPA) is at least 2.00, (4) To accumulate at least 72 ECTS credits from the courses given in English (at least 30% of 240 ECTS), (5) To be successful in the Final Thesis I and II courses, (6) To complete 40-workday internship and get approval from the relevant committee for the internship. 

After succeeding all of these requirements, the graduation of the student is approved by the faculty executive board and the diploma of graduation and 
«AQUATIC SCIENCES ENGINEER» degree is given to the student.

Opportunity to grant a second diploma or certificate while studying Aquatic Sciences:
It is possible to take a double major or minor program in the Biology Department and Molecular Biology and Genetics Department of the Faculty of Science, Forest Engineering Department of the Faculty of Forestry, Department of Environmental Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering and Department of Marine Transportation Management Engineering for our students who continue our faculty’s graduate programs with outstanding success by providing the conditions stated in the Istanbul University Double Major Program Directive and Minor Program Directive. Students are awarded a second undergraduate diploma with Double Major Program and a certificate with a minor program.

STUDENT CLUBS
Seven student clubs continue their activities within our faculty. In these clubs, our students find the opportunity to realize their hobbies about their occupation which they are educated for, receive educations in various fields and meet specialists in their field.
By the privilege of being a student of Istanbul University, our students can join other student clubs which operate within the I. U. Student Culture Center ( http://sks.istanbul.edu.tr/tr/_ )

SPORT ACTIVITIES
Our faculty is represented in the sport festival that is organized by Istanbul University Sports Union annually in football, women’s basketball, men’s basketball, women’s volleyball, men’s volleyball, badminton, table tennis, cross, chess branches and wrist wrestling with the teams coordinated by our academicians and selected from our students. By this way, our students find an opportunity to do regular sportive activities and socialize together.


THE LIBRARY WITH THE LARGEST ARCHIVE  ON AQUATIC SCIENCES IN TURKEY !​
Our faculty’s library is one of the most comprehensive libraries on aquatic sciences field. Our library contains many international publications related to aquatic sciences. Publications in the library are cataloged according to Anglo-American Cataloging Rules II and they are organized using Alpha/Numeric Accession System. All publications in the library was controlled, repaired and also cataloged on the internet.

Bibliography can be searched from the Istanbul University Automation Software. There are two computers available in the library for the readers to scan the database. A great variety of publications such as research articles, all types of reference sources, identification books, catalogs of museums of natural life and especially periodic publications are available in the library for researchers.

Accomodation
Social support is provided to our students by Guidance Counseling and Social Service Unit of the University. Students who do not have social security can benefit from health services such as Medico-Social Center, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Hospital and Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine Hospital. To continue their education period in a comfortable way, accomodation problem of our students are handled carefully. Dormitories are located in Avcılar and Cerrahpaşa Campuses. Reading rooms, student canteens and laundry are available in dormitories. Shuttle service busses are available between the faculties and campuses during the day. Further more there are a lot of governmental dormitories located close to our faculty. In the university cafeterias students are served breakfast, lunch and dinner and they can also benefit from the canteen.

Transportation
For Transportation in the city, you should apply for a discounted city card named «İstanbul Kart». We provide our Turkish citizen students a discounted "Istanbul-Card" when they register through the E-Government Portal.
