Department of Aquaculture and Fish Diseases
Department of Aquaculture
Workspaces
It is an academic unit where research is carried out on a wide range of subjects such as freshwater fish, marine fish, aquarium fish, crustacean and arthropod aquaculture, live feed production, growth performance of aquaculture products, reduction of mortality rates and anomalies in aquaculture environment, preparation of species-specific feed rations, hormone applications in controlled fry production, genetic manipulations by paying attention to the health and welfare of living things.
- In parallel with the advances in today's technology, to design and plan production facilities in fish production, which forms the basis of the rapidly developing aquaculture sector, in a correct and rational way,
- To increase the fish consumption of the society to high levels by breeding economic fish species that are decreasing in the natural environment and increasing production efficiency,
- To teach and develop practical production techniques of many exotic species in aquarium fish farming,
- To ensure the widespread use of closed circuit systems that enable the production of more fish using less water in order to ensure sustainable aquaculture due to the decrease in available quality water resources. Accordingly, to produce projects that will lead to the development of innovative and environmentally friendly production models (aquaponic system, etc.),
- To carry out genetic studies that increase product yield from applications such as selection, chromosome manipulations (androgenesis, gynogenesis, triploid, tetraploid, etc.), sex transformation, cryopreservation, germ cell isolation and gene transfer, which are included in fish breeding and reproductive biotechnology applications in aquaculture.

Department of Fish Diseases
Workspaces
In the Department of Aquaculture Diseases, researches are carried out on the diagnosis and treatment of bacterial, viral, parasitic and fungal disease agents that occur in all fish and crustaceans in our country.
- In addition to routine biochemical methods, histopathological, serological, molecular and cell culture methods are used for the diagnosis and treatment of fish diseases and to develop recommendations for their treatment,
- To develop vaccines, immunostimulants and probiotic trials for fish,
- To organize training seminars on basic information on fish health in order to enlighten aquaculture producers about diseases,
- To examine metabolic diseases caused by nutrition in fish production, to diagnose and analyze pathological disorders caused by vitamin and mineral deficiency, digestive system diseases and hormones,
- To determine the species identification of fish parasites and the distribution of these parasites.
