Dr. Tom Akamatsu gave a seminar: "Mapping of aquatic animals by passive acoustic monitoring"

Dr. Tomonari AKAMATSU from Nat. Res. Inst. Fish. Sci., FRA, Japan gave a seminar on "Mapping of aquatic animals by passive acoustic monitoring".

Passive acoustic monitoring is a quickly growing methodology to observe aquatic animals. Not only the presence of phonating animals, but also number and density within the observable range can be estimated for several species. Using current technology and modeling, a map of target species can be shown using broadband recording stations or towing hydrophones. In this lecture, basics of passive acoustic monitoring and acoustic remote sensing of multiple species were presented by Dr. Tomonari Akamatsu.
