Our Faculty members completed Antarctic Research Expedition !
The first Turkish Antarctic Research Expedition has been completed with the attendance of four academic members of our university. A team of 13 from TUBITAK and seven universities, including the expedition leader Prof. Bayram Öztürk PhD and Asst. Prof. Arda M. Tonay PhD from our Faculty, conducted research on various topics ranging from climate change, glaciers, geology and invasive species to pollution, marine biodiversity, protected areas, marine mammals and botanic. Based on an agreement signed last year between TUDAV, ITU PolRec and Ukrainian National Antarctic Scientific Center (NASC), the expedition does not only constitute the first steps of a long-term collaboration, but also is the first of its kind with the active participation and cooperation of different Turkish universities.
